BIO

Vancouver trio Twenty Million People plays heavy metal of the emotive kind. The band was formed in 2020 by Bah and Batu after they moved to Vancouver, BC, reinventing their sound that is the result of a decade-long career playing in metal bands and sharing the stage with metal heavyweights such as Opeth, Trivium, and Arch Enemy.

The duo became a trio with Brian joining the fold in 2021, and spent the next two years writing and playing together incessantly. Their efforts culminated in their debut album, New Rome, a collection of autobiographical stories tracing the breaking points in their lives, self-released in October 2022. Two music videos, for “Factory Fodder” and “New Rome”, followed suit.

With its diverse and ambitious sound that combines the ferocity and massive melodies of classic heavy metal powerhouses like W.A.S.P., the intricate guitarwork and grooves of modern metal masters such as Gojira and Mastodon, and unexpected moments of raw beauty inspired by the many worlds of indie music, New Rome launched TWMP fully-fledged into the Vancouver music scene as a name that’s here to stay. After a busy year of playing live and shouting their songs at all ears that would listen, the band released a new single titled “The Big Empty” in March 2024, along with a music video shot and directed by Vancouver artist John Stockburger. TWMP is currently working on their follow-up to New Rome.
